First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga has launched a Busoga regional task force tasked with mobilising support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the January 15, 2026 national polls.
The task force, which will conduct door-to-door campaigns across the Busoga sub-region, is intended to canvass votes for the President as part of the National Resistance Movement’s broader strategy to secure a fresh mandate for its flag bearer.
The initiative follows commitments made during the launch of the Busoga for Museveni campaign held last month in Mayuge District.
Speaking at the launch at her residence in Mbulamuti, Kamuli District, Kadaga said the people of Busoga made clear pledges during the Mayuge campaign, and the newly formed task force would ensure those commitments translate into concrete action.
She said the approach is designed to strengthen grassroots mobilisation by encouraging party members to take personal responsibility for engaging their neighbours and urging citizens to exercise their civic duty.
Kadaga noted that previous elections had revealed gaps between expected and actual voter turnout in the region, a challenge she said the task force intends to address through direct and sustained engagement with voters.
According to Kadaga, the initiative aims to ensure campaign messages reach voters at a personal level, fostering a sense of inclusion and motivation to participate in the electoral process.
She added that face-to-face interaction would be prioritised to build a sense of ownership among voters in decisions about their leaders.
“We are going to have a network first at parish, sub-county and constituency levels in the region, where we shall provide transport such as motorcycles to take messages to higher levels and to enable monitoring of what will be happening in constituencies,” Kadaga said.
She also emphasised that voting is a constitutional right, assuring residents that citizens would be free to vote and protect their votes without intimidation.
Kadaga said security would be strengthened throughout the electoral period to safeguard the population.
The First Deputy Prime Minister urged residents of Busoga to continue supporting the NRM, citing progress in addressing long-standing challenges in the sub-region, including concerns related to sugarcane pricing and issues affecting communities along Lake Victoria, which she said were being considered for harmonisation.
Members of the newly launched task force welcomed the initiative as timely and pledged their full commitment to ensuring victory for the party’s candidate in the forthcoming elections.
